What the side profile rating looks at
- Chin projection: how far the chin comes forward compared with the lips and forehead
- Jaw and neck angle: a sharp angle from jaw into neck reads lean and defined
- Nose: shape, dorsal hump and how it fits the rest of the profile
- Lips: their position against the line from nose tip to chin (the E-line)
- Profile harmony: how forehead, nose, lips and chin balance as one line
For an accurate side score, shoot a true 90° profile at eye level, neutral expression, chin level (not tucked or raised), with your hair off your face.
How real side profiles score (data)
Every maxxinIQ scan rates the front photo and the side photo separately. Across 7.5k+ real scans with a side photo, 82% of people score lower on their side profile than on their front, and only 11% look better from the side. For most people the profile is the weaker angle, which is exactly why it is worth checking.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a good side profile?
A good side profile has a forward-projecting chin, a defined jawline with a clear angle into the neck, a straight or gently curved nose that fits the face, lips that sit just behind a line from nose tip to chin, and a balanced forehead slope. Together these read as a strong, harmonious profile.
How does the AI rate a side profile?
Upload a front photo and a side photo. The AI scores the side view separately on chin projection, jaw and neck angle, nose shape, lip position and overall profile harmony, then gives you a side profile score out of 10 next to your front score.
Why do I look different from the side?
Your front view hides depth: chin projection, nose shape and the jaw-to-neck angle only show from the side. That is why most people score differently on their profile than on their front, and why a front-only rating misses half the picture.
Can you improve your side profile?
Yes, a lot of it is soft tissue. Lower body fat sharpens the jaw and neck angle, posture (head over shoulders, not forward) changes the whole profile, and grooming such as a beard shaped to extend the chin line helps. Bone changes like chin projection need orthodontics or surgery.
Is the side profile rating free?
Yes. The scan is free and needs no signup. You get your front and side scores; a full breakdown of every profile ratio is available in the complete report.
